How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology?
When I entered ODU, I came in as a cybersecurity major, and I still am. I knew that my major was unique, but I didn't realize the big significant technology impact it took in society. Soon, I got the idea that my major was not unique and important but as well very needed by the courses that I was taking. Entering as a freshman, at the time, the cybersecurity program in ODU was freshly new, but from that time till the present time now, the program has evolved much more, and it relates very much to the technology that the field does. My major relates very much to the cybersecurity technology because, as a student, I'm taking classes from practicing programming to learning networks and how data can be breached, by not only computer but as well through social engineering. On top of that, my major led me to be in a class where I learned and practiced on programs to retrieve cell phone messages as well as phone calls. In general, there is an enormous amount of connection between my major and cybersecurity technology due to preparing us after graduation.
Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.
Majors in ODU such as criminal justice, computer science, sociology, and leadership, all relate to cybersecurity.
With criminal justice, the major itself looks at how to detect the offenses, the correct punishment, and prevention strategies. Overall, criminology investigates on who committed the crime, why the crimes were committed, what the consequences will be, and behavior patterns. In general, the major relates too cybersecurity because they are studying the causation of crimes that occur in cyberspace and the impact it makes in the real world outside of the computer.
Computer science is the study of computers and the occurrence that computers do and take on society. Also, this is very relatable to cybersecurity because it is related to computers. Overall, Sociology is the study of social life, the causes, and the social causes as well as consequences of human behavior. It relates to cybersecurity because sociologists investigate on how the social influences shape cyber offending, the how on social groups interacting online, and how the technology impacts cyber offending. Finally, leadership is a discipline focused on developing individuals' abilities to lead. In connection with cybersecurity, leaders learn how to be familiar with how much they should be devoted to cybersecurity, the impacts of breaches, and the correct actions to take after a breach has occurred.
