Module 4: Protecting Business Using Technology / Computer Security Incidents and Technology

1. What are the costs and benefits of developing cybersecurity programs in business? 2. How can you tell if your computer is safe?

Nowadays, when it comes to developing cybersecurity programs in the business world, it has its costs as well as benefits. Cyber-attacks and data breaches can cost a business millions of dollars depending on how bad the attack has affected the business. It all comes down to the amount of information that was compromised which leads to determining how much the cost of the breach to the business will be. When data is hacked not only is the business affected by it but overall it leads to them losing all their customers. Once customers start leaving, the business starts developing financial loss. Businesses should indeed invest in cybersecurity programs as well as develop a strategic plan which would allow a business to be prepared for an attack before it happens and take proper steps. On top of that, it would also improve the safety of the business's customer base meaning that customers and the business information, would be secure. In general, it is important to educate employees on the types of cyber risks that they would encounter and take the proper steps for a breach to not occur through them. Any business or team should be ready to handle any attack. The cyber-attacks and data breaches are hard to recover from, so overall businesses are better to be prepared than have nothing.

When it comes to figuring out if your computer is safe, the best thing to do is check if the system's settings and how well protected it is when one needs to log in. Your right way can tell if a computer is safe if it prompts you two-factor authentication. Once the password has been entered, another message would pop asking the user to confirm it is whom they say they are. This is a technique to know information on a computer is safe because it blocks brute-forced entry.
